Tholos Bay Reefs Snorkel (Tilos)

36° 22.9′ N · 27° 23.4′ E · approximate

The east shore of Tholos (Theologos) Bay, at the south of Tilos, is dotted with reefs and awash rocks that Sailing Issues flags as good snorkelling from the anchorage at the head of the bay.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: just west of a small rock islet on the east shore mapped in OpenStreetMap (way 505268655, about 36.3810 N, 27.3897 E). Anchor at the head of the bay in 5-8 m over sand (a few rocks), ideally close to the short volcanic beach, with a line ashore; surprisingly well sheltered (Sailing Issues; see the Tholos Bay entry). Mind the reefs and awash rocks along the east shore and off the tip of Cape Trachilos when entering, and approach the snorkel area by swimming, not by dinghy at speed.

Best for

Snorkelling off a quiet southern anchorage
