Symi Kastro & windmills viewpoint
36° 36.8′ N · 27° 50.2′ E
The highest point of Chorio, where the Knights built a 14th-century castle on the old acropolis. Today it holds a church and gives a panorama over Gialos, Pedi and across to Turkey.
Practical
Greeka: the Knights' emblem is over the entrance and a small chapel of Kyra Panagia occupies the highest point, with views of Chorio and Gialos. Sailing Issues is lukewarm ('isn't worth the detour'), but the walk up via the Kali Strata is the real reward. The row of old windmills sits on the ridge above the harbour along the same walk. Free; go at sunset.
Best for
Sunset over the harbour
