Steno Bay (Astypalaia)

36° 34.5′ N · 26° 22.0′ E

The bay at Steno, the narrow isthmus that nearly cuts Astypalaia in two. It has shallow sandy water and, by most reports, good shelter even in a strong meltemi.

Practical

MarinaTips: a good sandy bottom, and the seabed is rather shallow, so stay at least 150 m from the shore. Its description says the shelter is excellent even in a strong meltemi, though its wind rating advises avoiding strong N and NE. Greeka: Steno beach is partly organised with shallow water; Mikro Steno nearby has no facilities.

Best for

Meltemi hidey-hole near the island's centre

Season

Good in NW meltemi
