Skala Sykamineas (Lesvos)

39° 22.4′ N · 26° 18.2′ E

A tiny fishing harbour on the north coast home village of the writer Stratis Myrivilis, with fishing caiques in a tiny harbour, looking straight across to Turkey.

Practical

Coordinate is the small harbour (Limeniskos Sykamineas) in OpenStreetMap. yachting.com recommends the bays of Sykamineas and Tsonia east of Molyvos only if the weather permits, noting most bays beyond Molyvos are exposed to the meltemi. The harbour is small and used by fishing boats; check depth and space before committing, and leave if a northerly is forecast. The mountain village of Sykamia above has the Myrivilis folklore museum. A former refugee transit site is nearby — this coast is a migrant landing area and coast-guard activity is common.

Best for

Settled-weather lunch or night at a fishing harbour

Season

Settled weather only; exposed to the meltemi
