Skala Harbour (Astypalaia)

36° 32.8′ N · 26° 21.3′ E

The harbour at Skala (Pera Gialos), below the whitewashed Chora and its Venetian castle: one of the most dramatic harbour views in the Aegean, and Astypalaia's only harbour with yacht services.

Practical

MarinaTips (Port Astypalea, updated Sept 2026): about 12 berths, max draft 5 m, max length 20 m; electricity and water; a harbour master is available in the evening. Moderate protection: none from W and weak from SW, so avoid strong W–SW winds. Large ferries now use the newer port at Agios Andreas (Wikipedia), which leaves more room at Skala, although the Pera Gialos ferry terminal is still mapped (OSM). Fees not published; verify locally. Not a port of entry. Fuel: two road filling stations a short walk up the hill (OSM, see Astypalaia Provisions). Restaurants, bakeries and a supermarket are within walking distance.

Best for

The base for Chora, provisioning and the southern beaches

Season

May–Oct; avoid strong W–SW
