Oinousses Harbour (Mandraki)

38° 30.8′ N · 26° 13.1′ E

A large natural harbour on the south side of Oinoussa, home island of Greece's great shipowning dynasties — all-round shelter, a welcoming 'yacht club' café on the jetty and a bronze mermaid perched on a rock at the entrance.

Practical

Enter from the E, leaving the mermaid statue (S tip of Nisos Mandraki) to port, then dog-leg between the concrete breakwaters; do NOT use the shallow NW channel (fishing boats only). Berthing (CruisersWiki): about a dozen yachts stern- or bows-to on anchor on the long concrete 'yacht club' jetty at the NW end in about 3.0 m, shoaling to 2.5 m toward its end; 2-3 yachts alongside the quay just E of the jetty in 3.0 m; 3-4 alongside the ferry jetty at the root of the N breakwater (4-5 m) clear of the ferry berth at its S end; or anchor off in 4-5 m, good holding in mud and sand. Shelter excellent from all directions, though meltemi gusts reach in. Water on quays/jetty — at the last report switched on only Monday and Friday afternoons; electricity at two stations near the yacht-club jetty (bring a long cable). No fuel, chandlery or repairs. Bins by the jetty. In August the harbour is crammed during the shipowners' 'gathering of the clans'; quiet the rest of the year. Harbour light Fl at Mandraki (OSM seamark). CruisersWiki details date from 2011-2014 — verify.
