Medieval Rose Festival (Rhodes Old Town)

36° 26.7′ N · 28° 13.4′ E · approximate

Rhodes's medieval festival turns the Knights' Old Town into a living set for a long weekend: parades from the moat, sword fights and battle re-enactments, medieval music, fire shows and craft workshops.

Practical

Position approx: pinned on the Palace of the Grand Master, near the festival's Medieval Park in the moat at the D'Amboise Gate; events spread through the Old Town. Organised by the cultural association 'Medieval Rose' with the South Aegean Region and the Municipality of Rhodes (To Vima, October 2024). The festival's own site announces the 19th edition for October 9-11, 2026. Dates have moved over the years: older editions ran late May to early July (Greeka, 2011) and the 17th edition was in early October 2024, so check medievalfestival.gr or its Facebook event for the current programme. The 2024 programme included archery, chess, mosaic, rope-making and medieval printing and minting workshops, a sword-fighting workshop for children, a medieval tavern with local wine, and a closing Sunday parade at 7:30pm followed by a bagpipe and percussion concert at the Palace Bastion. Mandraki and Rhodes Marina are both a short walk away; book a berth early, as the town is busy on festival weekends.
