Makrinitsa (Pelion)

39° 24.1′ N · 22° 59.2′ E

The 'balcony of Pelion': a mountain village of stone mansions, plane trees and fountains at about 550–600 m. It looks straight down over Volos and the whole Pagasetic Gulf you are about to sail.

Practical

About 20 km (30 minutes) by road from Volos port; taxi (+30 2421 027777) or KTEL bus. See the Museum of Folk Art and History of Pelion in the Topali mansion and the café with a fresco by Theofilos. Sail Aegean recommends Art Café and Aeriko for coffee and cake with the view. Nearby Portaria has Kritsa (central square) and La Veranda for dinner. Cooler than the coast, and a winter destination too.
