Kampi Bay (Fourni)

37° 34.2′ N · 26° 28.6′ E

A small cove just south of Fourni town with a beach, tamarisks, a taverna and three windmills on the ridge - the archipelago's best-protected anchorage; a CruisersWiki author rode out a force 9 gale here for several days.

Practical

Well protected from the meltemi, with much better holding than the town harbour, but deep (18-20 m) with restricted swinging room; fishing boats lie on balls at the east end. Easier options: a concrete L-shaped jetty off the beach takes 3-4 yachts bow- or stern-to; or tie stern-to the 7 concrete bollards the To Kampi taverna owner built on the western rocks (use two lines). He also laid mooring balls (three in 2001, one in June 2013). If you use his bollards or moorings, you are expected to eat at least one meal at the taverna. Beware very sharp, urchin-covered rocks when landing a dinghy. Violent gusts seem to come from every direction. Two uphill step-paths connect to the road into town, about 30 minutes on foot.

Best for

Riding out a meltemi near town
