Chochlakoura Bay (Kouloura, Lipsi)

37° 17.0′ N · 26° 47.1′ E

Arguably the best anchorage on Lipsi: a white-pebble bay below the church of Panagia tou Charou, with crystal water, caves and arches to snorkel and dark skies for stargazing.

Practical

Solid holding in sand in 5–11 m; the north and NE parts are flat, the west steeper. Very safe in the meltemi (NW–N), no swell in the prevailing wind, best storm shelter in northerlies and westerlies. No taverna or organised beach. The landing pier is used by a fishing boat — pull your tender up the pebble beach. Hazard: the Kouloura islets to the SE — pass only in good conditions (Sailing Issues). Grecosailor: 5 m on sand, excellent holding, comfortable in 25 kn NE–NW. Dimitris farm and vineyard 400 m inland sells organic produce, olive oil, wine and cheese.
