Alonissos Chora (Old Village) hike
39° 8.6′ N · 23° 50.7′ E · approximate
The hilltop old capital, abandoned after the 1965 earthquake and lovingly restored — lanes of stone houses, tavernas and small shops with views over both coasts and the Mourtias bays.
Practical
Approximate position of the village on the ridge west of Patitiri. About 35 minutes up (25 down) by the old mule track from Patitiri (Sailing Issues); taxi from Votsi about €12 (verify locally). From Megalos Mourtias, follow the red dots uphill. Restaurant Thea has views over the Mourtias bays (Sailing Issues logbook). The Venetian fort is not open to visitors, but the path above the village gives sea views (noforeignland). Playground for children.
Best for
Sunset dinner above the island
