Varvarousa Islet Snorkel (Syros)

37° 28.1′ N · 24° 53.6′ E · approximate

The small rocky islet at the mouth of Aetos bay is ringed by boulders and rock walls. Local fishermen rate it for spearfishing, which tells you the fish are there.

Practical

Coordinate is approx: just off the east tip of the islet (OSM islet outline spans about 24.8897E to 24.8924E). Greek Wikipedia: the islet sits at the entrance to the small bay of Aetos, about 12 km from Ermoupoli, and the beach of the same name is reached by boat (caique from Kini, or yachts in summer) or on foot. aegeanislands.gr names Varvarousa as a good spearfishing spot. Greek spearfishing rules: breath-hold only, daylight only, no scuba; check the current rules. Anchor at Varvarousa Bay or Aetos Bay and swim or dinghy across. Remote, no facilities; north-west coast gusts in a meltemi.
