Tinos Meltemi & Winter Southerlies
37° 34.8′ N · 25° 7.8′ E · approximate
Tinos is the 'island of Aeolus': in summer the meltemi blows hard from the north, often for days, and in winter strong southerlies are common.
Practical
Meltemi from about mid-May to mid-September, strongest in the afternoon, often easing at night but sometimes blowing for days at Beaufort 7-8 (Wikipedia). Tinos is rated 'very high' exposure in August (Filovent). In summer set the anchor well; in winter watch moored boats in southerlies; take particular care crossing the Andros-Tinos and Tinos-Mykonos straits (tinosecret). Pin is approx: centre of the island.
