Sounion East Anchorage (below the temple)

37° 39.2′ N · 24° 1.4′ E

The SE corner of the bay, closest to the beach and directly beneath the Temple of Poseidon. Your night view is the floodlit columns.

Practical

The seabed is sand and weed, with holding mySea and SailingIssues both describe as moderate to poor. SailingIssues says taking a line ashore can help. mySea gives depths of 2–10 m. This is SailingIssues' east waypoint. It is the closest anchorage to the beach jetty and tavernas, so it fills first and gets swimmer and jet-ski traffic in the day.

Best for

Shortest dinghy ride to the beach and temple path

Season

May–Oct; avoid in strong southerlies
