Sikinos Chora & Kastro
36° 41.7′ N · 25° 7.1′ E
Two linked hilltop villages on a cliff edge about 280 m above the sea: medieval Kastro, built in the 15th century as a fortress against pirates, and the quieter farming village of Chorio. They are among the least-spoilt Choras in the Cyclades.
Practical
Position is the OSM Sikinos village node. Kastro's square holds the town hall (+30 22860 51238), a medical surgery, shops and cafés. The blue-domed Panagia Pantanassa church (1787) has a gilded, carved baroque iconostasis and Cretan-school icons, and its feast is the first Sunday of Lent. Chorio has no shops. Vouni, on the northern cliff edge, was the old farming quarter with mills and olive presses (sikinos.gr). Getting there: the bus from Alopronia, or about a 40-minute walk up (Sailing Issues; downhill time). Tavernas: see Sikinos Chora Tavernas.
