Platis Gialos Mooring Field (Sifnos)

36° 55.8′ N · 24° 44.0′ E

The small fishing refuge in the NE corner of Platis Gialos bay, with laid moorings, power and water. In summer it is packed, and the long sandy bay outside fills with anchored charter yachts.

Practical

SailingIssues: approach the green light from the SSE, avoiding silt left by port construction. Most berths have laid moorings and fixed fenders. The mole takes violent N–NE gusts but gives ample safety in a meltemi. Not recommended in strong southerlies. Medium holding in sand and rock. mySea: go alongside the inner mole if free (the best spot, safe even in a strong meltemi), otherwise stern-to; depth 1.5-4.2 m. The laid lines are meant for smaller boats, so use your anchor as well. Facilities listed by mySea: water, electricity, slipway, boat lift, ice. A 2017 commenter also found toilets and showers. Contacts: mobile +30 6947 287241 (mySea); Platis Gialos Fishing Refuge office +30 22840 71365 (municipality). Fuel by delivery from Komis EKO. No published fees, so verify locally.
