Naxos Town Harbour & Marina

37° 6.3′ N · 25° 22.5′ E

The island's capital harbour, entered past the long ferry breakwater with the marble Portara doorway on its islet as the unmistakable landmark. The small marina basin opened in 2002 and sits right under the Venetian Kastro and the waterfront tavernas of Chora.

Practical

About 80 berths on concrete piers with water and electricity (mySea). Transients usually go on the southern pontoon, outside, stern-to on their own anchor; most of the old tailed lines have gone and the remaining ones are too short for larger yachts. Depth about 3.5 m in the basin but it shoals fast towards the town quay, in places under 1 m, so deeper boats should stay off the landward pier and many skippers go bow-to. Hazards: a ground chain about 30 m (100 ft) off the southern pontoon has fouled many anchors (Noonsite, 2016-2018 reports), holding near the rocks is poor, and fast-ferry wash sends big surges into the basin, especially at the south end. Do not lie alongside: cruisers report torn-out fairleads and cleats. Lie stern-to and pull well off the quay. The basin is usually full by about 6pm in season, so arrive early or call ahead. Marina VHF 69, port VHF 12 (sailingissues). Dockmaster mobile listed as +30 6946113923 (sailingissues); older Noonsite reports (2017-2018) give +30 6975 510 595. A 2016 report paid about EUR 18/day for a 14 m boat including VAT, water and power, at the port police office; verify locally. Out of season pay the Port Police (+30 22850 22300). Showers and toilets are on the promenade. Fuel comes from the station at the root of the ferry mole or the mini diesel truck. mySea calls the berths dangerous in southerlies and westerlies. Sailingissues reports planned works to extend the outer mole by 170 m and the ferry quay by 110 m. Position from the mySea marina listing.
