Mersini Harbour (Schinoussa)

36° 52.2′ N · 25° 30.6′ E

Schinoussa's ferry port in a small bay on the west coast, overlooked by the Chora on the hill above. Sailingissues calls it perhaps the most alluring port in the Lesser Cyclades.

Practical

Gusts come mainly from the NE. If possible, go stern-to the north-west quay, opposite the larger ferry quay and near the road up to Chora. It is shallow, so you need several boat lengths of stern line (sailingissues). In summer an eclectic mix of gulets, superyachts, yachts and catamarans fills the quay first, then the anchor berths across the bay, nearly all with lines ashore. George Yachts calls it one of the best small-boat shelters in the area. The holding is sand, weed and occasional reefs and is not great, so verify the set; many crews anchor off and tender in. Leave the ferry quay clear. No marina services. The Chora (shops, ATM, bakery) is about 2 km uphill (George Yachts), and an ELINOIL fuel station is on the island road (OSM). Two tavernas, Mersini and Nicolas, sit at the port (OSM). If the port is full, Livadi bay to the south-east is the alternative.
