Megali Vlichada (Amorgos)

36° 55.9′ N · 25° 60.0′ E

'Fjord bay', a deep, cliff-walled inlet near Amorgos's north cape. Sailingissues counts it among its favourite eastern Cyclades anchorages, and the sun drops early behind the rock face on hot evenings.

Practical

Bow anchor in 5-10 m on coarse sand, with a second anchor taken onto the beach. Gusts blow down the valley or from NNW, following the land and sea breeze cycle; the prevailing NW can turn into a local SE in the evening. Cape Vilakarda gives some protection at the head. Relocate to Aegiali in NNW-NNE winds or gusts over 35 kn. Langada is a 30-minute hike uphill (sailingissues). Position is OpenStreetMap's Megali Vlichada bay; the sailingissues pin (36.92674N 26.00537E) plots ashore on OSM.
