Livadi Bay Anchorage (Serifos)

37° 8.7′ N · 24° 31.1′ E

The broad bay off Avlomonas beach at the head of Livadi, where boats anchor when the basin is full or crews prefer to swing. Chora's white houses rise straight above the anchorage.

Practical

mySea: 2-6 m over sand with stones and weed, holding moderate to poor. Its advice is to drop as close as you can to the red buoys off the beach, or the anchor will probably drag. In a northerly, land the dinghy straight on the beach rather than motoring to the port. A second mySea point further out is 30-32 m deep with bad holding over stone, weed and shingle, so don't anchor in the middle of the bay. SailingIssues says the bay looks roomy, but it recommends the basin because of frequent katabatic winds from the north, typically 1 Beaufort more than the wind outside. mySea commenters (2014-2015) report strong gusts from both north and south. Lay out plenty of chain and set the anchor hard. Restaurants, mini markets and the bus stop are a short walk along the beach.

Best for

Free anchoring with a short dinghy ride to Livadi's tavernas

Season

May–Oct; expect gusts in any northerly
