Lavrio Fish Market (Psaragora)

37° 42.9′ N · 24° 3.3′ E · approximate

Lavrio's traditional fish market sits just behind the harbourfront, ringed by fish tavernas and ouzeris. Barbaros calls the scene local and authentic rather than touristy, and it is the place to buy whole fish for the barbecue.

Practical

Opening hours are not published; as at most Greek fish markets, go in the morning for the day's catch. The tavernas around it now have their own entries: Karahalios, To Petrino, To Limani, Olga, Pezodromos and Da Vittorio. Wikivoyage also recommends Kokovios, next to the National Bank near the main square (Plateia Iroon), for good-value traditional food, and Festival Bistro, an all-day spot at Kountouriotou 6 on the port (+30 22920 23690). The mySea port page also lists O Kapetan Giannis, Kavos, Karafaki and Remezzo near the quay. Coordinate is approximate: it was taken from a mySea 'Psaragora' listing that could not be re-checked and places it beside Olga taverna, one block behind the harbourfront.
