Koumbara Bay (Ios)

36° 43.5′ N · 25° 15.4′ E

A sandy bay just west of the harbour headland, about 1.5 km from the port, with a busy organised beach. Small coves with pebbles and colourful rocks lie beyond it.

Practical

Position from Grecosailor (36°43'28.9"N 25°15'21.9"E): grassy sand, short stops only. Sailing Issues warns it has much less shelter than Mylopotas, that strong gusts come in from the north, and that anchoring is largely prohibited. Check for buoyed swimming zones and any local signs before dropping. Ashore: tavernas, accommodation and a beach bar. A walk west leads to a thick-pebble beach and then a bay with two small sandy beaches (Visit Ios). Tzamaria Bay is the next indentation, toward the harbour.
