Kolitsani Bay (Ios)

36° 42.8′ N · 25° 17.1′ E

A small cove with a beach on the west side of the Mylopotas headland, south of Chora. Cruising guides pick it as the better-protected corner when the meltemi gusts across Mylopotas.

Practical

Position from Sailing Issues. They recommend it, along with the double-headed cliff bay east of it, as the safest place to lie off the Mylopotas coast in N-NE gusts. A Grecosailor crew also ran here from an untenable Sikinos anchorage, about 5 nm away. Space is limited, so anchor in sand and check your swing. The Jean-Marie Drot Museum of Modern Art, open in summer, is in Kolitsani (Visit Ios), and Chora is a short uphill walk.

Best for

Better meltemi lee than open Mylopotas

Season

May-Oct; a refuge corner in N-NE meltemi
