Grammata Rocks Snorkel (Syros)

37° 29.9′ N · 24° 53.3′ E · approximate

Snorkel the pale rock slabs of Grammata bay, where sailors carved Roman and medieval prayers of thanks above the waterline, over a bottom of sand, seagrass and rock.

Practical

Coordinate is approx: it is the Grammata anchorage position (Grecosailor), so you can swim from the boat to the rocky shores either side. Grecosailor reviewers describe seagrass, sand and rocks, with hard, light-coloured slabs that are difficult to see. The inscriptions are an archaeological site: look, do not touch or add marks (Sailingissues). Seagrass (Posidonia) is protected in Greece; anchor on the central sand patch. Remote, no facilities.
