Golden Beach (Chrysi Akti, Paros)

37° 0.6′ N · 25° 14.4′ E

Chrysi Akti (Golden Beach) on Paros's east coast is a 700 m sweep of golden sand and the island's wind-sports headquarters, swept by the wind that funnels down the Paros-Naxos channel.

Practical

Greeka: Golden Beach runs about 700 m. Every August it hosts the Professional Windsurfing World Cup (per Greeka; check the current year's calendar). Force 7 windsurfing school and Paros Diving Center are on the beach. New Golden Beach (Tserdakia), just to the north-east, is the windiest and most popular for kiting, with gear hire and lessons (Dream Yacht base guide); see its own entry. Wikipedia notes the constant strong wind in the Paros-Naxos strait that makes this a favoured windsurfing location. mySea logs sand and seaweed with good holding off Chrysi Akti, but this coast takes the full meltemi, so anchor only in settled weather and keep well clear of kiters and boards. Position from the OpenStreetMap beach.
