Finikas Bay Anchorage (Syros)

37° 23.7′ N · 24° 52.4′ E

The large, open-mouthed bay outside Finikas Marina. It has plenty of sand, a beach lined with tavernas, and the best anchoring shelter on Syros from the north.

Practical

Position is the charted anchorage on the OSM seamark layer. George Yachts: 3-6 m on good sand, the best reliable shelter on the island from northerlies and the preferred night anchorage in a meltemi. YACHT (Aug 2025): when the pier is full there is plenty of room, but lay out lots of chain and set the anchor well because strong meltemi gusts blow down through the bay. Open to the SW. Dinghy to the marina quay for tavernas, minimarkets and the bus or taxi to Ermoupoli.

Best for

Overnight in a meltemi when the marina is full

Season

Best in N meltemi; untenable in strong SW
