Dimitris Ammoudi Taverna (Oia)

36° 27.6′ N · 25° 22.3′ E

Opened in 1989 by Dimitris and Joy in an old warehouse where locals stored their boats, it grills fish at the water's edge below Oia's red cliffs.

Practical

Coordinates: OSM. Official site: seafood and Mediterranean dishes, lobster spaghetti, sea bream, scorpion fish baked in paper with garlic, fava and tomato balls; phone +30 22860 71606; bookings via the site's contact page. Greek Gastronomy Guide notes the sunset lasts longer down at Ammoudi. Reviewers say a taxi back up to Oia costs about 20 euros (verify locally), or climb the roughly 300 steps. Also nearby (merged from the area overview): Coordinates are Dimitris taverna on the quay (OSM); other tavernas line the promenade. By sea: sailingissues reports the short mole is used by the Thirasia ferry, exposed to most winds and subject to ground swell, and crowded with local boats on private buoys; it is a dinghy landing rather than a yacht berth (approach from a mooring at Thirasia, 1.5 nm away). Lights: Ammoudi Point Fl W 4s 7M; Nikolaos Point Fl G 2s 4M. Swimming and snorkelling off the rocks next to the beach (Greeka). Under the 2026 safety decision (to March 31, 2027), sea access and the path up to Oia stay open, but the coastal trail from Ammoudi to Agios Nikolaos is closed and vehicles are banned from the main junction, except supply vehicles 5-10am and a small rota of minibuses.
