Antiparos Kastro

37° 2.4′ N · 25° 4.8′ E

A 15th-century Venetian 'castle-village' in the heart of Antiparos Chora, where the houses themselves form the defensive wall around a central tower and you still enter through a single Gothic gate.

Practical

Built in 1440, linked to the Venetian Giovanni Loredan (antiparos.com; Wikipedia). It has 24 two-storey houses in the outer ring, a central mound that was once a water reservoir, and three churches. The only entrance is in the south wing near the square. Many of the houses are now shops. Small bats circle the tower at dusk (Wikipedia). A few minutes' walk from the harbour. Position from the OpenStreetMap castle outline.
