Ancient Marble Quarries of Marathi (Paros)

37° 5.0′ N · 25° 12.0′ E

The galleries at Marathi are where the famous Parian marble of antiquity was quarried; you can still peer into the old tunnels and see a bas-relief honouring Pan and the nymphs at an entrance.

Practical

The quarries lie on the northern side of the mountain anciently called Marathi, near the former convent of St Mina (Wikipedia). Reach them by taxi or bus from Parikia on the cross-island road to Lefkes. Bring a torch if you plan to look into the tunnels, and do not go deep inside unguided. Position from the OpenStreetMap quarry outline.
