Amorgos Chora

36° 49.9′ N · 25° 53.9′ E

The island's capital, a whitewashed hilltop village wrapped round a rock crowned by a 13th-century Venetian castle, with windmills on the ridge and barrel-vaulted chapels in every lane.

Practical

Sailingissues: a pleasant uphill walk from Katapola. Waymarked path 2 'Fotodotis' runs Chora-Milies-St Irini-Katapola (Xylokeratidi), about 1 hour, easy (amorgos.gr); or take the bus or a taxi. OSM maps a pharmacy, ATMs, a supermarket, a bakery and a post office in the Chora, plus the Archaeological Collection of Amorgos. Trailhead for the 1.5 km walk to Hozoviotissa and for the Old Strata (path 1).
