Agios Georgios Outer Anchorage (Iraklia)

36° 52.1′ N · 25° 28.3′ E

The open water in the inlet off Agios Georgios, where yachts anchor when the pier is full and row in for dinner.

Practical

Grecosailor skipper report: sand and seagrass, deep a good distance from shore, sheltered in the afternoon with minimal swell. Weedy patches, so holding is doubtful without a strong anchor and plenty of chain; one crew lacked enough chain. Waves break on the rocks at the entrance beyond this spot. George Yachts notes the anchorage off the port is exposed to the south and that published depths conflict, so check the chart. Watch ferry swing room.

Best for

Overflow anchorage when the Agios Georgios pier is full
