Agios Georgios Harbour (Iraklia)

36° 51.8′ N · 25° 28.2′ E

Iraklia's only port: a short ferry pier at the head of a fjord-like inlet on the north coast, with the hamlet of Agios Georgios and its tavernas right on the water. A berth on the south side of the pier is one of the few true meltemi refuges in the western Small Cyclades.

Practical

Room for only about 3-5 yachts, on the south side of the short ferry pier; ferries use the north side (sailingissues). If you get a berth under the pier you are safe even in meltemi weather. Depth about 4 m at the quay per a 2020s Grecosailor skipper report; one pilot gives 2.5-4 m alongside, varying along the quay, so sound as you go in (sailboatliveaboard). Stern-to on your own anchor; no laid lines, no marina staff. Scattered chains and old anchors lie on the bottom, so use a trip line. The wind can blow southerly outside yet funnel from the north inside the hamlet. Swell and gusts can enter from the north sector in a strong meltemi. The anchorage just outside, off the port (see Agios Georgios Outer Anchorage), is exposed to the south and published depths conflict. Services: no fuel and no quay water (sailboatliveaboard); 1-2 mini-markets and an ATM by the port. Provision in Naxos first. Not a port of entry. Port authority for the Small Cyclades is at Naxos (coast guard Naxos +30 22850 22300, listed by donoussa.gr).
