Aegiali Harbour (Amorgos)

36° 54.1′ N · 25° 58.6′ E

The relaxed northern port of Amorgos at the head of a sandy bay, with Langada, Tholaria and Potamos villages stacked on the mountainside above and a long beach right beside the quay.

Practical

All-round shelter in port despite strong NW gusts (sailingissues). Go alongside the pier if possible, otherwise stern-to. The quayside is too shallow for most charter yachts. Ferries dock at the far end; the preferred berths are in the middle section. Sailingissues found no fouling chains near the pier (GWP mentions some). George Yachts: around 6 m, mud and weed, good holding, good meltemi shelter with some swell when strong. Sailboatliveaboard: 3-5 m alongside and more exposed to northerlies than Katapola, with constrained manoeuvring when busy. Anchoring in the bay: the best spot is between the green light and the beach, affected only by strong westerlies, with reasonable holding in sand, weed or rock; the bay's seabed is steep (sailingissues). Grecosailor reports excellent holding in sand outside the port. Water and fuel are less reliable than Katapola; arrange in advance. Amorgialos taverna (vegetarian-friendly) is right at the pier; the dive centre is on the beach.
