Tereia Beach

16° 26.9′ S · 152° 16.4′ W

Maupiti's best beach: a long curve of fine white sand on the west coast at Pointe Tereia (Puoro), facing Motu Auira across a lagoon shallow enough to wade. Mount Teurafaatiu rises behind you.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM beach polygon (Terei'a). Tahiti Tourisme calls it Tereia or Point Puoro beach, with a view of the mountain, and notes you can walk across the lagoon to Motu Auira at low tide. No yacht access: the west lagoon is very shallow. Come from Vaiea by bike or on foot (about 3 km), or bring the dinghy round only if you know the shallows. Tereia Point, Ninahere's rocks and the legendary lizard cave are at the south end. Snack bars and pensions are at the back of the beach.

Best for

Swimming, sunset and the wade to Motu Auira
