Plage Lafayette (Maivai), Arue
17° 31.1′ S · 149° 30.4′ W
A wide black-sand beach at the foot of the Tahara'a hill in Arue, the local swimming beach for the east side of Papeete, with Moorea on the horizon.
Practical
Coordinates from Tahiti Heritage. In February 2010 a cyclonic swell with waves of about 6 m swept away the beach's black sand, which has since returned (Tahiti Heritage). About 2 km east of the Yacht Club de Tahiti; by bus along the coast road. Calm for swimming in the trades; exposed to north swell. No anchorage off the beach: use the Yacht Club or Matavai Bay.
Best for
Black-sand swim near the Yacht Club
Season
Best in settled trades; rough in north swell
