The Direction polynésienne des affaires maritimes regulates anchoring zones (ZMR) across the Society Islands and runs the ESCALES booking system for overnight anchorage places.

Overnight ZMR places (4pm–9am) are booked at escales.gov.pf, by email, or by phone 40 54 45 78 (24/7) per the 2026 Moorea brief; the pilot covered Taiarapu Ouest (Tahiti) and was free, with anchoring fees announced from 2026. Boats under 20 m may use ZMR spots freely 9am–4pm within each zone's quota.
