The waterfront food trucks by the ferry terminal were long Papeete's cheapest dinner, but cruisers reported in July 2024 that they no longer set up at Place Vai'ete by Marina de Papeete; check locally before walking over.

Approximate: Place Vaiete is on the downtown waterfront between Marina de Papeete and the ferry terminal; the coordinate is set from the marina position. Status: 'No more food trucks in Place Vai'iti near Marina Papeete. There are, however, food trucks near Marina Taina' (Roam, July 2024, Soggy Paws compendium). Older reports (Tahiti Cruisers Guide) had trucks every evening from 5pm selling crêpes, fish and Chinese food. Historic prices were 1,500–2,000 XPF a meal (Wikivoyage, Jan 2019; verify locally). If the square is empty, the nearest cheap options are the lunch stalls in the Marché de Papeete, the Arue roulottes by Carrefour Arue, or the food trucks near Marina Taina. The tourist office is opposite Place Vai'ete.
