Vaitahu Cross Hike

An easy road walk north from Vaitahu village up to the big white cross on the headland, with views over the bay and across the Bordelais Channel to Hiva Oa.
Practical
Approximate position: the 'Croix Blanche' on the north headland of Vaitahu Bay (2026 brief map; coordinate derived from the OpenStreetMap coastline). Follow the main road north, keep left at the Y; the cross is on the left near the point. Allow 45-60 minutes round trip (2019). The track continues beyond for more views (2018). The road continues to Motopu, a long walk; two statues of the Virgin stand along the way, and residents leave a coin for protection (2026 brief). A shortcut path from the southern end of the seafront saves about two-thirds of the distance to the southern viewpoints (2018).
