Tubuai South-of-Airport Anchorage

23° 22.5′ S · 149° 31.7′ W

The best all-round shelter in Tubuai's lagoon: a quiet spot south of the airport on the west side, protected in everything from NE through E to SE, where Pitufa sat out a strong southeasterly.

Practical

Waypoint 23°22.54'S 149°31.74'W (Pitufa, Nov 2018): about 5 m over a thin layer of sand on coral, medium holding, so float your chain and dig in carefully. Reached by the uncharted lagoon route from the pass (see 'Tubuai Lagoon Route Pass to Airport'); the channel deepens to 7-9 m near the airport. Exposed to W and NW. Far from Mataura's services; the airport road is close by for bikes or hitching.
