Lou Gobi Pass Dive (Tubuai)
23° 20.5′ S · 149° 30.5′ W · approximate
Tubuai's signature pass dive: the left-hand slope of the pass falls from 18 m to 40 m, and Tahiti Tourisme counts more than 30 coral species on it, with colourful reef fish.
Practical
Coordinate is Tubuai's NW pass, Passe Te Ara Moana (OSM; the same waypoint as the 'Tubuai North Pass' passage); the dive is on its 'left slope', so the exact spot depends on direction of travel. Tahiti Tourisme names the site but not its operator; the island's only permanent dive club is Tubuai Plongee at the Mataura quay (see 'Tubuai Plongee Whale Watching and Diving'). 2026 prices (club site): one dive 8,500 XPF per person (minimum 4), two dives 16,000 XPF (minimum 2). Tubuai Plongee closes dives in peak whale season, 20 August to 24 October 2026. The club dives volcanic drop-offs, canyons and coral plateaus with jacks, grey snapper (nanue), anthias, marbled groupers, sharks and nudibranchs; whale song is heard Aug to Oct. If diving from your own boat, time it for slack water and leave someone in the dinghy, as the pass carries the lagoon's outflow.
