Tikehau Pearl Beach Resort Anchorage (Motu Tianoa)

15° 6.1′ S · 148° 11.8′ W

Turquoise sand-patch anchorage between Motu Tianoa (home of the Tikehau Pearl Beach Resort) and Motu Runga, about 2.5 nm east of the village; breezy, beautiful and roomy enough for 10-12 boats.

Practical

Position 15°06.129'S 148°11.835'W in 2.4 m on a sandy patch with good holding (Sugar Shack 2021; Noonsite 2023); in 2020 they used 7 m sand at 15°06.11'S 148°11.856'W. WARNING: a submerged power cable runs from Motu Tianoa along the shore to Motu Haamea; anchor NE of Motu Tianoa to avoid snagging it. A spot slightly east of the resort at 15°05.873'S 148°11.694'W (about 2.5 miles from the village anchorage) in 30-35 ft (sand and bommies; use a fish finder to find sand) was protected from SE-E-NE swell though not wind (Jacaranda 2018). The resort has not welcomed yachties ashore (2018 reports: refused dinner bookings and bar service), so plan to stay aboard.
