Taipivai Valley Waterfall Hike

8° 52.4′ S · 140° 3.7′ W · approximate

A long valley walk from Taipivai to a waterfall that one crew rated better than Daniel's Bay's.

Practical

Position approx: plotted at the Wikipedia/GeoHack coordinate for Tai Pi (Taipivai village, 8°52'23"S 140°03'40"W). Cynergy (2013): about 2 hours; stay on the west side of the river and follow the road, which splits about 45 minutes in: keep straight/right (not the driveway to the left); the track is sometimes hard to see. A 2019 crew walked from the Hooumi side and called it a 20 km round trip. Start early with water and repellent. The Hakapaa lobe also has a short, easy waterfall walk. The brief (2023) names the Taipivai waterfall Kuee Nui; OSM has a 'Cascade Kueenui' viewpoint on the Hatiheu road at -8.84893, -140.09503.
