Taipivai Landing Beach (Hakahaa)

8° 52.6′ S · 140° 3.2′ W

The dark-sand beach at the head of Controleur Bay's central lobe, where the Taipivai river reaches the sea and cruisers land for Melville's Typee valley.

Practical

Coordinate is the OpenStreetMap beach polygon centre at the head of the Hakahaa lobe. The brief (2023): land by dinghy on the beach to reach Taipivai, or at high tide go part-way up the river to the small quay at the village entrance. When it is lumpy, Jacaranda (2015) beached on a small sandy beach and walked into the village on a trail, since getting into the river at low tide is hard. Water point in the village; non-potable tap by the river (Sea-Seek). No-nos: repellent.

Best for

The landing for Taipivai village and valley walks
