Taiohae Produce Market

8° 54.9′ S · 140° 5.7′ W

The fruit and vegetable market beside the artisan centre at the dinghy dock, mostly island-grown, plus fishermen selling tuna and wahoo straight off the boats.

Practical

Coordinate is the OpenStreetMap 'Marche communal' node at the head of the small quay. Hours (compendium 2024): Mon-Fri 6:30am-3pm, Sat 4am-10am; Noonsite (2026) says daily 6am-3pm except Sundays and the Saturday market from 5am to about 10am (4am if you want tomatoes). Ask a vendor for something they lack and they may bring it the next day. Saturday flea market (marche de puce) about 5am-6:30am also sells seafood and prepared food. Fish: fishermen land at the quay, mostly at dawn; fresh tuna about 500 XPF/kg (2024); bring your own container. Eat pelagic fish, not reef fish (ciguatera). Organic eggs at Boutique Chez Nadja, often sold out, order ahead. Don't pick fruit from trees: every tree belongs to someone.
