Tahanea NW Pass Sand Patch Anchorage

16° 50.6′ S · 144° 41.8′ W

A shallow sand patch just inside the NW pass (Motupuapua), the closest spot for dinghy runs to the manta pass.

Practical

Position from Sugar Shack (March 2022): 3 m on a nice little sandy patch, with 4 floats to get scope and clear the bommies. Soggy Paws (2010) marked TAHA3 nearby at 16°50.6107'S 144°41.8510'W: 'lots of coral, some NW protection'. Their TAHA4 at 16°51.0551'S 144°41.5240'W, near the middle pass, was 25-30 ft with lots of coral and good snorkeling. Protection is from the motus to the N-E; exposure to wind from the lagoon side (S-W). Float your chain with fenders or pearl floats.

Best for

Quick access to the Motupuapua manta snorkel
