Otao Pass Snorkel (Tahanea East)

16° 51.6′ S · 144° 39.5′ W

Tahanea's east pass, split inside by a reef: its shallow, narrow west channel makes an easy, fishy snorkel.

Practical

Coordinate is Passe d'Otao in OpenStreetMap. Kokopeli (Oct 2018): 'The east pass was also fun, it's divided on the inside by a reef. The west channel was shallow and narrow, but easy for snorkel.' Mantas sometimes visit the south/east pass too, though more often the north (Sugar Shack). Stage from the Otao Pass Anchorage, where you can watch the incoming stream. Go at slack to early flood.
