Supply Ship Day at Makemo
16° 37.6′ S · 143° 34.2′ W · approximate
Ship day transforms Pouheva: fresh produce floods the magasins, diesel and gasoline can be bought by the drum straight off the deck, and the village turns out at the quay.
Practical
Approximate: at the town quay. Ships calling Makemo in 2024: Mareva Nui (about 21 calls a year), Nuku Hau (about 12) and SXMS 3 (about 11) (commune sheet). Diesel off the ship comes in 200-litre drums: bring jerry cans, XPF cash only, no duty-free certificate. Soggy Paws (2010) got a much better price than at the store. Shops can be bare 2-3 weeks after a ship (Nehenehe 2019), so ask at Opareke when the next one is due. Keep clear of the quay and the ship's lines while it maneuvers.
