Makemo Pier Water and Fuel
16° 37.6′ S · 143° 34.3′ W · approximate
Pouheva is one of the few Tuamotu villages with town water near the concrete pier, and diesel is available in small quantities from the stores or by the drum from the supply ship.
Practical
Approximate: at the town quay; ask locally for the exact tap. Water: the Soggy Paws compendium says the town has water near the concrete pier; always ask permission and whether it is drinking water. The commune runs rainwater-treatment points sold by prepaid card at 20 XPF per litre (2024 atoll sheet), so offer to pay. Fuel: there is no fuel dock. Diesel ('gazole') and gasoline ('essence') come in small quantities from Opareke Market and Magasin Chez Tupana (cheaper in 2022), or from the supply ship in 200-litre drums: bring jerry cans, cash in XPF only, and the ship does not honor the duty-free certificate (Soggy Paws). Trash: purple and green bins along the streets; cans go in the large bin near the mairie (2019).
