Makemo Harbor Wreck Snorkel
16° 37.6′ S · 143° 34.2′ W
A flattened wreck lying right in the village anchorage: pieces of a wooden boat, a small steel trawler deck section with its round hatch, a 2-cylinder diesel with gearbox, a windlass and chain, all colonized by reef fish.
Practical
Position from Sugar Shack (Nov 2019) in the Soggy Paws compendium. Kokopeli (Oct 2018) describes the wreck 'just south of the reef' off the village. Easy swim from anchored boats in calm weather; stay clear of dinghy traffic by the harbor. Do not anchor on it.
Best for
A quick, easy snorkel without leaving the anchorage
