Snack du Requin Dormeur and Meko Bar (Havaiki)

16° 4.4′ S · 145° 36.9′ W

Havaiki Lodge's beachside snack and in-water bar, with tables in the shallows and blacktip reef sharks cruising past your feet. The best lunch spot in the north. From 3 pm the Meko Bar becomes the easiest sundowner in the north: Rotoava sits on the north-east rim, so the sun sets across the lagoon in front of it.

Practical

Snack du Requin Dormeur ('sleeping shark') serves an a la carte lunch from 11 am to 3 pm. The Meko Bar serves house cocktails from 3 pm, then one set dinner menu that changes nightly (havaiki.com). Ph +689 40 93 40 15, info@havaiki.com. In 2022 a cruiser recommended the burger or poke bowl at the bar over the main restaurant. Book dinner ahead. About 2 km south of the quay; dinghy to the beach or the long Havaiki dock. The lodge has a pontoon (Moana Voyages); land the dinghy on the lodge beach or at the pontoon and ask first. Other village options: Hinariki (Hirinaki) Lounge on the dock opens Thursday to Sunday evenings from 5:30 pm (Soggy Paws, verify); La Paillotte, the pink lagoon-side cafe cruisers used for sundowners, closed in October 2019.

Best for

Lunch with your feet in the lagoon, then a sunset cocktail
